Mod Nation Racers - beta first impression

ModNation Racers is Sony next “Play,Share and Create” initiative. The game which is in it’s public beta now really caught me by surprise by the shear amount of cleverly crafted tools to help gamer immerse themselves in the game. Just like Little Big Planet, the game starts out by putting you in a Hub where you can choose to race or simply spend your time customizing your Avatar, Rides or go crazy with the track creation tools.

The one thing I really like about the beta is the custom creation tools, either for the Avatar, Rides or the tracks. United Front have done a great job in ensuring the tools are powerful yet easy for a casual gamer to pick up. On top of that, the level of customization are very deep with multi layer of option. Judging from the locked items, gamers will have tons of time just playing around these mode. Thought limited in choices, gamers are already finding creative way to create cool custom Avatar as seen scrawlfx“>here and here

Tricking your Rides and customizing your Avatar is fun but the real game killer would probably be the Track creator. The 2 option – free roaming ( where you drive while building the track based on your trail ) or the more standard method of using a track machine. Both method is so easy too use than even my 6 year old manage to create a huge track in less than an hour.

Some of the advanced tools might take some time to familiar yourself with but none of them require a degree to understand – just time and a few friends/family to cheer you up.

I could go on and on about the beta and how cool it is but my suggestion, if you can get a beta code then i highly suggest you download the game and give it a go! – you won’t regret it unless you’re not into these kind of game.

There are still tons of stuff not available in the beta, so it’s interesting to see what United Front is planning when the full game hit store shelves. One thing i know, this is a gem for Playstation 3 owner and it will further enhanced Sony’s “Play,Create and Share” plan.
